Meghan Trainor said she felt “so grateful” when Sabrina Carpenter chose to record one of her songs.

Before breaking through to worldwide fame in 2024, the Espresso singer was known for her role in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World, and she officially started her music career in 2014 with the release of her debut single, Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying.

During a conversation with Bustle, Meghan, who wrote the track, explained that it became her “big break,” since it happened just months before she introduced her major debut single, All About That Bass.

Talking about her connection to Sabrina, the 31-year-old shared, “I didn’t get to meet her, but she was my superstar. Ever since then, I thought she was amazing, and I was so grateful that she recorded my song.”

She went on to say, “I was just getting started. I was 17 or 18, and they told me the song would go to a Disney star. I thought, ‘Yeah, right.’ But then she did it, and it became my big break. Ever since then, I have been so excited for her.”

The Lips Are Movin artist remembered cheering Sabrina on at industry events like Jingle Ball, and always speaking highly of her whenever they crossed paths.

Meghan also mentioned that she hopes Swedish star Zara Larsson will soon get the wider recognition she deserves.

“It’s how I feel now about Zara Larsson. She really deserves her flowers,” she told the outlet. “I don’t know why she hasn’t had her big moment in America yet, because the girl is so talented and so bomb.”
