Sean Ono Lennon Says He and Julian Inherited the Same Amount From John Lennon
Sean Ono Lennon has pushed back against claims that he received a larger inheritance than his half-brother, Julian Lennon, from their late father John Lennon's estate.
On Monday, the musician, who is the second son of the Beatles legend and Yoko Ono, shared a photo on X showing himself and 63-year-old Julian looking out across a lake in a picturesque setting.
"Had a wonderful birthday with my brother...@JulianLennon," he wrote alongside the picture.
Not long after, one social media user claimed that Sean had received the bulk of John's fortune after the singer-songwriter was killed at the age of 40 in 1980.
"One brother received most of the estate, while the other was largely excluded and had to fight through decades of legal battles to secure a relatively small portion of it," they claimed. "That must have been deeply painful and infuriating for one, and certainly uncomfortable for the other. The fact that they have stayed close, and mostly always have, shows the healing power of being a laid-back person, with a lesson that extends far beyond their own family."
Sean quickly stepped in to challenge the allegation publicly.
"Julian and I received equal inheritances from our dad. Our trusts were the same. His was actually slightly higher, but the difference was negligible," the 51-year-old responded.
Julian, John's son with his first wife, Cynthia Lennon, who inspired the hit song Imagine, has yet to respond to the exchange.
In 1996, the musician and photographer reached a settlement with Yoko after a 16-year legal dispute, reportedly receiving $26 million (£20 million) from his father's estate.
