Becktoria Releases Catchy Single, “Sigh,” Just in Time for Summer Fun

London-based singer, songwriter, and actress, Becktoria, brings us the perfect song for summer with her latest release. Catchy, quick, upbeat—Becktoria’s “Sigh” is a danceable song destined for a movie soundtrack, and we’re lucky enough to hear it first.

“I would describe the song as silly, fun, goofy—kind of like my personality,” shares Becktoria. “Most of the songs I write are more metaphorical and about love, but this one was a different type I haven’t done before.”

At first glance, “Sigh” is a quirky, entertaining record—the perfect background for summer fun. According to Becktoria, there’s more to it than meets the ear. “‘Sigh’ is about having one of those days when you want to make light of a not so happy situation. The song talks about how people want a lot of things—nice things in life—but might not have the means to do it. I want listeners to feel like they’re not alone through my song.”

In fact, the song goes even deeper upon closer inspection. Through “Sigh”, Becktoria hopes to send a message about mental health and finding happiness within. “The song has a deeper meaning I’ve come across especially when it comes to success,” explains Becktoria. “A lot of people in society base success off money you make and stuff you have. But to me, it means being able to be happy and maintain happiness in the toughest, darkness times.”

Becktoria is no stranger to creating her own happiness, even while overcoming obstacles. By the age of three, Becktoria was drawn to the stage. Her interest for performing grew into a steady passion for music and the arts. At age 11, she received classical training and began singing in choir and with a school pop band as lead soprano. Earning merits and gaining recognition for her work, Becktoria transitioned to modeling, winning pageant titles while working toward her bachelor’s degree.

In 2012, Becktoria relocated to Los Angeles to focus on her master’s degree in film acting. She went on to appear in commercials, television shows and films, solidifying her destiny in performing arts. It was then she began releasing music, earning her way into the charts.

In order to create the single, Becktoria deviated from her usual songwriting process. “When I write a song, I write the chords on the piano first. But in this one, I wrote the melody and lyrics first and then found chords for it. Then, I sent a demo of the recording to my producer to come up with the instrumentals along with references of the sound I wanted. From there, I went into the studio and tweaked it a bit.”

“It took two days to complete everything on this single. I was inspired to write a silly song and ended up writing it in the shower when I was in the mood to write. It’s about how things don’t always go the way you want to in life—but I turned it into a happy, poppy song. I was just singing words in the shower and then finished it the next day.”

While Becktoria wants her listeners to have fun with her new single, she also wants them to feel inspired. “What is more important to you in life? Material things or a more simple, happy life?” asks the artist. “The thing is that material things can only give you temporary happiness in life. True happiness comes from within and it starts with self-acceptance and self love. You have to find that for yourself. Money can give you a comfortable life, but happiness is a state of mind. You have to choose to be happy. You can’t control a lot of things in life but you can control how you treat yourself.”

Originally released prior to the pandemic, the single was recently re-released. “I’m excited to share it again,” tells Becktoria, who has new music in the works. “On June 23, I will release my next single titled ‘Like I’m Your Only Love’.” “I also have a new music video for a mash up of ‘Falling in Love’ and ‘You and I’.”

In addition to her upcoming releases, the artist is excited to take part on a judge’s panel for “The Singer’s Choice”, a competition for independent artists in the music industry. On the show, artists learn about the industry and how to succeed; it’s also a platform for them to showcase their work.
