New single “Get da Money” kicks off a busy summer for teen rap star Red Vegus

The boom bap track “Get da Money” is much more than the latest release by 13-year-old hip hop prodigy Red Vegus.

For one thing, it isn’t just one track. It is one of three on the “Get da Money” Kulture Kings Maxi single, which is a teaser for the Kulture Kings project that will be released June 20.

But first, it is a single.

“Basically, I just wanted to spit fire on the track,” said Red. “I put it out there to tell y’all to stop messing around. Just go get the money. Chase your dreams. That was my message.”

The single also embodies some of Red’s hopes and goals. The song already has between 5,000 and 10,000 streams, but he wants more. He hopes this will hit the same mark that his debut album, St. Rose da Truth, did last year. Red was 12 when he released that project.

“I’m trying to hit a million streams like I did with my last EP,” he said. The single features D Jay Boogaloo.

The other two tracks on the maxi-single are an acapella version and an instrumental version.

Altogether, this mini project is part of a much larger one called Kulture Kings, a collaboration with the legendary Father Emcee Coke La Rock. It will be released June 20.

Kulture Kings will also have an exclusive NFT by Steve Cas. The promotional material says collectors who purchase the NFT will be able to “own a piece” of Red’s career “and become an integral part of his journey.”

“Get da Money,” the instrumental version, is also the center of a social media challenge.

“We were planning on doing a challenge for months now,” said Red. “We were looking for the perfect song to do it, and we chose ‘Get da Money.’”

Contestants put a freestyle rap to the beat, record it, tag Red in a video, and post it to hashtag “Get da Money Challenge.”

The challenge has just started. A specific end date has not been set, but he said it will be sometime around the end of the summer.

Red will also be a feature in celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip hop. He has already performed at one of two on the west coast. Another will be on July 22 at the Desert Jam Music Festival with promoter Big Mike Rob.

On the East Coast, he will perform during the Hip Hop Boulevard event from July 11 to July 16, and on August 26 he will be part of the Times Square celebration in New York City, also promoted by Hip Hop Boulevard.

“They invited me to come perform,” said Red. “I can’t wait!”
