Taylor Swift’s gesture sparks wave of support for young cancer patient

The family of a two-year-old girl named Lilah, who is fighting cancer, has opened up about the impact of a generous donation from Taylor Swift.

Lilah’s mother, Katelynn Smoot, spoke to TMZ about the Karma singer’s $100,000 (£74,700) contribution to a GoFundMe campaign created to support her daughter’s treatment.

“We had had no communication with Taylor Swift or her team before or after,” she explained.

“It was like a very silent, ‘Let me just drop this here’ — and bless our lives!”

Smoot added, “The donation, we just stumbled upon it because my husband decided to refresh the GoFundMe page and just saw it. I don’t even know — it’s just such a shock.

I posted a video thanking her because I felt like I had to say something about it. It’s just such a large sum. I couldn’t just let it sit there.”

After sharing her gratitude publicly, Smoot said that Swift’s loyal fan base began flooding the GoFundMe page with additional donations.

According to the campaign, Lilah is battling a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.

The fundraiser has now reached $325,996 (£243,449).
