Jon Bon Jovi reflects on accepting the ageing process

Jon Bon Jovi has shared that he’s had to “come to terms” with getting older.

The 63-year-old musician appeared on Wednesday’s episode of the How to Fail podcast, where he opened up about learning to accept the changes in his appearance. Bon Jovi admitted that it took him a while to be comfortable with how he looks today.

“I had to come to terms with having grey hair,” he said, adding, “When stylists would put colour in, I hated that. So, I just said, ‘Screw it,’ like 12 or 13 years ago. I wouldn’t do that anymore, and so I had to come to terms with ageing.”

Once considered a major sex symbol throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, Bon Jovi confessed that he misses the way he used to look.

“You know, I look at pictures of me now, and I’m not happy about it,” he admitted. “I look at 30, 40, 50, and I go, ‘Yeah, I would rather look like that,’ but I don’t.”

Although he occasionally struggles with the idea of ageing, Bon Jovi said he has no plans to turn to cosmetic procedures to change his appearance.

“I’m not gonna ever get work done, and my hair is grey, but at least I still have all my hair,” he said. “I haven’t had any surgeries, operations, Botox injections, eye jobs or lip jobs or whatever the hell else you do these days. I’m not interested in any of that, nor would I do it.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Bon Jovi reflected on the lessons he’s learned as he’s grown older.

He shared that he believes “health” is the “key to the universe,” explaining that taking care of his body allows him to look forward to many more years of happiness.

When asked how he defines success, Bon Jovi said it’s about far more than fame or numbers.

“It’s not measured in terms of any numbers. Numbers don’t mean it. They’re not relevant. Relationships, family, legacy. Not necessarily in that order. Family obviously would be first. Keeping my family sane and together would be number one,” he said.
