Harlem rapper Max B wasted no time stepping back onto the stage after being released from prison earlier this month. On Thursday night, the Wave God appeared at Brandy and Monica’s New York City show, surprising fans at Barclays Center by performing his 2008 favorite “Sexy Love.”
“Welcome home, my brother,” Monica told him, just before Max hyped up the audience by saying, “New York, stand up! He’s baaaaack. Where my ladies at, Barclays?” He then made his way across the stage, sharing a quick dance with Monica before jumping into “Sexy Love.”
Billboard reported that Monica and Brandy also invited Fabolous, Fat Joe, Ciara for “Level Up,” and Tyrese for “Sweet Lady” to join them as special guests during Thursday’s performance.
Max B walked out of prison on Nov. 9 after serving sixteen years for his involvement in a failed armed robbery that led to a man’s death. “I’m feeling righteous, man,” Max said earlier this year on The Joe Budden Podcast. “I’m doing all right. This is almost over. Wavy Baby coming home real soon.”
Back in 2009, Max B received an initial seventy five year sentence after being accused of helping coordinate a robbery in New Jersey that resulted in murder. The ruling was overturned in 2016 when a new legal team argued that his first trial attorney had a conflict of interest. His sentence was then lowered to twenty years.
Max B plans to release his The First Purge (Patient Zero) project next Friday. Even while incarcerated, he managed to keep putting out music, including “Hold On” with French Montana in 2019. He also delivered an album titled Negro Spirituals in 2021.
As for Brandy and Monica, they will keep their The Boy Is Mine Tour going on Friday in Newark before traveling through Detroit, D.C., Atlanta, New Orleans, Tampa, and Miami to close out the year.
