Limp Bizkit Pay Tribute To Sam Rivers During Their First Concert After His Death
Limp Bizkit honored their late bassist Sam Rivers on Saturday during the band’s first live performance since Rivers passed away in October.
The group, which had earlier said they would keep their tour schedule intact after Rivers’ death, stepped back onstage Saturday in Mexico City to begin their Latin American run. During the concert, Limp Bizkit played a tribute video filled with moments of Rivers performing and spending time with his band mates, who watched the montage along with the crowd.
“Sam Rivers, our brother forever,” the message read at the end of the video. “Sam Rivers, we love you forever.”
Rivers died on October 18 at the age of 48, and no details were given about the cause. For the Mexico City show, bassist Richie “Kid Not” Buxton, who also performs with the tour’s opener Ecca Vandal, took over bass duties, according to Blabbermouth. “Now we are gonna do this the Limp Bizkit way. Tonight, this is for Sam Rivers,” Fred Durst said as they kicked into “Break Stuff.”
Before the Mexico City concert, Limp Bizkit drummer John Otto shared a heartfelt reflection about Rivers on social media. “Today is going to be hard. A first I never wanted to face. Especially not now. You were there for so many important first moments in my life. Some of my earliest memories are with you. We grew up side by side. We laughed together. We chased our dreams together. And we saw the world together. You were always there. The godfather to my girls, my closest friend, my brother. There will never be another you.”
Otto added, “We will celebrate the life you lived and the love you gave with every show we play. You will always be with us.”
