Ama Lou Returns With New Single "Trust Nobody"

By Staff

British singer/songwriter Ama Lou makes her long-awaited return today with the single “Trust Nobody.” The track is her first release in nearly two years and the lead single from her upcoming EP. In addition to the new music, Ama released the minimalist, self-directed video to accompany it.

The stripped-down production of "Trust Nobody" highlights Ama Lou’s rich vocals and thoughtful lyricism. The 22-year-old classically trained musician writes about love in a way that shows wisdom beyond her years, yet she manages to maintain a youthful innocence that allows her to be honest about her feelings without restraint. "I still wish you the best, but we just don’t blend in the same way you found me", she sings. "I received your message, don’t appreciate your methods". It’s a fulfillment of the intimate sound and look that she’s been exploring since her earliest singles.

"Trust Nobody" arrives nearly two years after Ama Lou’s highly anticipated EP, "Ama, who?" "NORTHSIDE", the EP’s hypnotizing ode to her hometown of North London, has garnered over 7.3 million views on YouTube. Since her captivating 2016 breakout single "TBC", Ama Lou has continued to grow as a vocalist and songwriter, receiving attention and praise from Vogue, The Fader, i-D, Elle, The Guardian, and others. With her sister Mahalia, Ama Lou launched Marzlama Films, a production company that produced and directed the all of her videos to date including "TBC" and "Far Out", making her an artist to watch. After a brief time away, “Trust Nobody” is a reminder of Ama Lou’s enchanting approach as a songwriter and a sign of much more to come.
