Mel C and Sir Ian McKellen Donate Drawings to National Doodle Day

Spice Girl Mel C and celebrated actor Sir Ian McKellen are part of a famous group of musicians, performers and illustrators creating original artwork for National Doodle Day 2026.

The yearly fundraising campaign is returning for its 22nd edition and is organised by the national charity Epilepsy Action. Well known figures from music, film and television will create unique drawings for an online auction. Every penny raised will help provide essential support for around 630,000 people living with epilepsy throughout the UK.

This year’s contributors also include Eurovision singer and songwriter TEYA, DearAlice member Olly Quinn, Mercury Prize nominee Sam Lee, Dame Joanna Lumley and illustrator R.W. Alley. Sir Ian McKellen, who is taking part for the seventh time, has submitted a drawing of Gandalf, his famous character from Lord of the Rings.

The online auction will begin on 25 September 2026 through Epilepsy Action’s official eBay page and remain open for ten days until 4 October.

The 2026 campaign will also include a special live project with internationally recognised artist Mr Doodle. Starting on Tuesday 22 September, he will create a huge public mural by hand in Peckham, South London. Visitors will be able to follow its progress during the week before the completed artwork is revealed on Friday 25 September. Special guests, including comedian Jake Lambert, will also attend.

Around one in 100 people across the UK lives with epilepsy, while approximately 80 people receive a new diagnosis each day. As well as generating funds, National Doodle Day hopes to challenge misconceptions about epilepsy and create more honest discussions around disabilities that are not always visible.

Organisers believe the diverse collection of celebrity drawings will encourage supporters to place generous bids. Every piece will be displayed and available for purchase through Epilepsy Action’s official eBay store beginning on 25 September 2026.
