50 Cent Refuses To Back Down In $1 Million Legal Battle With Ex

By Caroline Fisher

50 Cent has never shied away from legal disputes during his career, and that trend appears to be continuing. At the moment, he is involved in a court case with his former partner Shaniqua Tompkins. He filed a lawsuit against her in July of last year, claiming she broke an agreement connected to his publishing company, G-Unit Books.

According to reports, Tompkins sold the publishing imprint the rights to her personal story in 2007. The deal reportedly covered her name, image, personal experiences, and related details. In exchange, she allegedly received $80,000 along with the promise of additional royalty payments later on. Despite that agreement, Tompkins is said to have spoken publicly about her past relationship with Fif in several interviews.

“Capitalizing on her recent notoriety from a ‘viral’ post commenting on testimony in the high-profile ‘Diddy’ trial, Tompkins has repeatedly and deliberately exploited the very rights she conveyed to G-Unit Books,” his legal team alleges in the lawsuit. “Tompkins’ behavior was intentional—she explicitly referenced the very agreement she breached while she actively breached it, stating it was something that was ‘going to have to be worked out legally.'”

Tompkins did not file a response to the lawsuit before the September deadline, which led 50 Cent’s legal representatives to pursue a default ruling. She has since claimed that she signed the agreement under pressure. She alleges that 50 Cent’s former manager Chris Lighty located her and made threats toward her. "During this encounter, Mr. Lighty told me that I would suffer severe consequences if I did not sign the agreement,” she alleged late last month.

50 Cent is not backing away from the situation. AllHipHop's Grouchy Greg Watkins exclusively reports that he has asked the court to reject her request for additional time to respond.

“Tompkins does not dispute G-Unit Books’ central allegation that her conduct breached the parties’ Life Rights Agreement," his attorney insists. "Instead, she contends the contract is unenforceable, relying on decades-old misconduct allegations supported only by her own self-serving statements.”
