Charli XCX and Milly Alcock Confirmed for New Takashi Miike Horror Film

By Max Pilley

Charli XCX is preparing to take on a new acting role opposite Milly Alcock from Supergirl in an upcoming horror film directed by acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike.

According to Deadline, the currently untitled slasher is due to begin shooting in Japan next month. The project marks a return to horror for Miike, the genre that cemented his cult reputation through films such as Audition and Ichi the Killer.

Charli will portray a character named Katie, who travels to Kyoto to reunite with two former friends, only for events to spiral when she becomes possessed by a brutal and terrifying spirit. The cast also includes Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead, Kiko Mizuhara from Attack On Titan and Show Kasamatsu, known for Tokyo Vice.

On Sunday, Charli publicly confirmed her involvement, sharing her excitement on X. “I am so honored to be working with takashi miike as a producer and an actor, literally a dream come true!!!!” she wrote.

“We met in 2024 and started coming up with ideas for a project,” she added. “I cant wait to be immersed in his world ahhh!!!!! xxxx”

The news reflects Charli’s growing presence within the film world, alongside her music career.

Her satirical mockumentary The Moment, set against the chaos and cultural obsession of Brat Summer and its accompanying tour, arrives in UK cinemas on February 20. Meanwhile, Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, which features an original soundtrack composed by Charli, is released on Friday February 13.

She is also currently appearing in cinemas in Julia Jackman’s period fantasy 100 Nights Of Hero. Additional upcoming projects include the indie drama Erupcja and the satirical thriller Sacrifice.

Charli is also set to star alongside Natalie Portman in The Gallerist and will appear in I Want Your Sex with Olivia Wilde.

Last year, she admitted that her creative focus had shifted, saying she was “currently feeling more inspired by film than by music” after feeling “stuck, empty and barren” following the release of her breakthrough album ‘Brat’.

Elsewhere, she recently appeared alongside close friend and collaborator Rachel Sennott in a Super Bowl commercial for the drinks brand Poppi.
