David Bowie Exhibition You’re Not Alone Announced for Lightroom in London

By Newsdesk

A large scale immersive exhibition celebrating David Bowie is preparing to open at London’s Lightroom, giving fans the chance to step inside the imagination and music of one of pop culture’s most groundbreaking figures.

David Bowie: You’re Not Alone places the late legend’s own narration at the centre of a fully immersive 360 audio and visual experience, built from rare clips, personal archives and newly reworked performances sourced from the extensive David Bowie Archive in New York. The production is presented by Lightroom and developed by design studio 59, directed by Mark Grimmer, who previously led the V+A’s acclaimed David Bowie Is exhibition as Creative Director, alongside Tom Wexler.

Instead of focusing on Bowie’s well known alter egos such as Ziggy Stardust and the Thin White Duke, the show turns its attention to the person behind those characters. Through newly arranged soundscapes, bold imagery and carefully structured chapters, You’re Not Alone looks at Bowie’s reflections on imagination, faith, performance and the restless artistic drive that shaped his legacy.

Guests will experience everything from offbeat television appearances, including Bowie’s witty 1975 conversation with Russell Harty, to a dramatic recreation of the Diamond Dogs tour stage, vividly transformed within Lightroom’s expansive digital space. Songs including Space Oddity, Diamond Dogs, Heroes and Blackstar have been reconstructed using Lightroom’s immersive spatial audio technology, with sound crafted by multi Olivier and Tony Award winner Gareth Fry, whose credits include Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and David Bowie Is.

The exhibition draws from thousands of hours of archival content, blending live footage, photographs, handwritten lyrics, sketches and studio sessions to form a deeply personal exploration of Bowie’s artistic world. The project has been created in close partnership with and officially approved by the David Bowie Estate.

Grimmer explained that the creative team aimed to move away from portraying Bowie as an otherworldly figure.

He said: “Throughout his career, Bowie resisted being seen as anything other than human. Rather than diminishing his mystique, we wanted to celebrate him as a champion of human creativity, someone who believed art helps us understand what it means to be alive.”

Lightroom Executive Producer David Sabel shared that the venue offers the perfect setting to immerse audiences in Bowie’s universe.

He added: “Lightroom lets audiences step inside an artist’s imagination. There’s no one more fitting for that than David Bowie. Travelling across decades of his performances, whether you’re reliving them or discovering them for the first time, is a total thrill.”

You’re Not Alone arrives after Lightroom’s previous successful projects with David Hockney, Tom Hanks, Anna Wintour, Vogue and Apple TV, which together have attracted more than 1.5 million visitors globally.

Tickets for the King’s Cross exhibition will be available from February 10 at 7pm, starting at £25 for adults and £15 for students and concessions. The experience runs from April 22 through June 28, with further summer dates expected to be confirmed. Fans can join Lightroom’s mailing list to receive updates about upcoming ticket releases.
