The Verve Hint at Possible Reunion

By Newsdesk

Richard Ashcroft is reportedly thinking about getting back together with his The Verve bandmates to mark 30 years of Urban Hymns.

Nearly two decades after the group went their separate ways, Ashcroft is said to be open to bringing the band back, with inspiration coming from Oasis’ huge run last summer, where he joined the Wonderwall stars on tour.

A source shared with The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Richard’s had an incredible year and his tour did really well.

“While performing with Oasis, he saw how much love there still is for The Verve and their music, and it sparked a lot of conversations.”

“There are plenty of people who believe a The Verve reunion to celebrate Urban Hymns would be massive, both for the band and for fans.”

Urban Hymns, which came out in 1997, became a global hit and included well known tracks like Bitter Sweet Symphony, The Drugs Don’t Work and Lucky Man.

Still, bringing the band back together may not be easy because of past tensions and disagreements.

The Verve first came together in 1990 with Richard, guitarist Nick McCabe, bassist Simon Jones and drummer Peter Salisbury. They have broken up and reunited before, but they have not performed live together since 2009.

When asked about the idea of a reunion last year, Richard told The Sun newspaper: “We’ve already played that hand.

“I don’t think it would work.

“The Verve’s situation was a tougher one than Oasis, it was a different dynamic to Oasis.”

He also reflected on how things feel now compared to earlier in his career, saying he enjoyed the experience of touring alongside Oasis.

He said: “Back then, we didn’t really grasp what was happening.

“Oasis supported us, then we supported them, we shared some unforgettable moments.

“Hearing songs like Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back In Anger connect with people again this year was really special.

“You forget how strong their work ethic always was. Liam has been taking care of himself, especially his voice.

“When it’s time for my tour, I will be in Liam mode as well, no drinks for me.

“I’ve always respected Noel as a songwriter and admired Liam as a frontman, but seeing everything play out now feels like people are appreciating that era all over again.

“It’s not just nostalgia, it feels real and current.”
