Anastacia Brings The Laughs To Australian Show ‘Urzila’
Anastacia may be known for heartbreak anthems, but her latest appearance is all about comedy.
The powerhouse vocalist makes a funny guest appearance in the new Australian comedy series Urzila, created by South African born and New Zealand based comedian and actress Urzila Carlson.
In the newly released sketch, Anastacia runs a dance audition ahead of dropping her next single, which she describes as a “dancehall banger.” The dancers all have one mission, make the singer feel the energy.
As the auditions unfold, Anastacia carefully watches the performances, including one standout contestant named Davis, whose flashy and over the top moves seem designed to grab all the attention. Even with his energetic routine, it is Urzila’s unusual dance style that completely steals the spotlight. Rather than following traditional choreography, she leans into her own chaotic rhythm and unpredictable moves.
Even after Davis complains and jokes that Urzila came from a “lesbian outreach program,” Anastacia remains impressed. Quoting the singer’s hilarious response, “Maybe I do agree, she wasn’t dancing very good. But I think she was dancing great,” delivering the line with a playful Simon Cowell style attitude.
Urzila ultimately lands the job and takes charge of the choreography for the fictional track, throwing together finger guns, exaggerated eyebrow raises, lost key searching motions, and what can only be described as “drunk aunty at a wedding” energy.
Anastacia recently promoted the sketch across her social platforms, writing, “Such a joy being part of this! Thank you so much, Urzila Carlson, for having me – I had an absolute blast filming this skit with you. I’m beyond excited for you all to see it! As Urzila says: You’re gonna laugh your head off.”
Rising to fame in the early 2000s, Anastacia became a major star across the United Kingdom and Europe thanks to hits including “I’m Outta Love,” “Left Outside Alone,” and “Sick and Tired.” She has earned 12 top 40 singles on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, including three top 10 hits. On the albums side, six of her projects reached the U.K. top 10, including her self titled 2004 album, which climbed all the way to No. 1.
Urzila currently airs Wednesday nights on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and is also available to stream on demand through ABC iView.
