Oasis’ ‘Morning Glory’ Named the Biggest UK Studio Album of All Time

Oasis have secured a place in British music history after (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? was named the UK’s Official biggest studio album ever. The milestone arrives as the Official Albums Chart marks its 70th anniversary on 22 July 2026, celebrating seven decades of tracking the country’s listening habits since launching in 1956.

The Manchester band’s influential 1995 album claims Number 3 on the all time chart, making it the highest ranked studio release in UK history behind two greatest hits collections. It has accumulated an impressive 6.2 million UK chart units, with interest rising significantly following the group’s landmark reunion in 2025. Oasis also appear elsewhere in the ranking, as their 1994 debut Definitely Maybe takes the Number 39 position.

Queen lead the overall countdown with their 1981 collection Greatest Hits, which has reached a remarkable 7.8 million chart units. ABBA sit just behind them at Number 2 with Gold: Greatest Hits on 7.1 million units. Adele’s 2011 album 21 occupies Number 4 with 5.7 million units, making it the century’s biggest album and earning her the title of the highest ranked female artist in UK chart history. The Beatles complete the Top 5 with Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which has recorded 5.6 million units.

Five British artists feature inside the all time Top 10, with Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon and Dire Straits’ Brothers in Arms joining Oasis, Adele and The Beatles near the top. Ed Sheeran also performs strongly throughout the wider Top 70, securing three entries led by his 2017 album ÷ (Divide) at Number 13. Official Charts interim Co Managing Directors Becca Monahan and Chris Austin praised Oasis for the achievement, saying that Morning Glory continues to stand as a landmark British album and bring different generations together more than 30 years after its release.
