Gracie Abrams Admits Her Song Made Her Want to “Rip My Eyeballs Out”
Gracie Abrams has revealed that one of the tracks on her latest album once made her feel like she wanted to "rip out" her own eyeballs.
While appearing on the newest episode of Jake Shane's Therapuss podcast, Abrams opened up about her third studio album, Daughter from Hell, which was recently released.
The 26-year-old artist admitted that listening to Look at My Life was difficult for her when she had first finished writing it.
She explained that it took her some time to develop a different relationship with the song.
"I really didn't like that song until recently," she said.
Abrams then opened up about why the track was particularly difficult for her to hear.
The singer-songwriter said she created the song during a period when she was struggling emotionally, and listening to it brought her back to that difficult point in her life.
"I wrote it when I was not feeling good," she said.
She added that it took several months before she could listen to the track without having such a strong reaction to it.
"It took like six months until I could hear it again and not want to rip my eyeballs out."
During another part of the conversation, Abrams reflected on her experience supporting Taylor Swift during The Eras Tour across several shows in 2023 and 2024.
The Hit the Wall singer said being involved with the massive tour taught her valuable lessons about performing and putting on a major production.
"It's so easy to talk about because it was the masterclass, you know what I mean?" she said.
Abrams explained that watching Swift work gave her an opportunity to see how the global superstar carefully creates an unforgettable experience for both the audience and everyone involved behind the scenes.
"You get to watch this titan of the industry, top-down, make the experience for every single person who ever attended, but every single person who works to make it happen, the best version of the experience that it could be," the singer continued.
Abrams said she had a great time touring alongside Swift and described the atmosphere among the crew as having "very summer vibes".
She also admired Swift's dedication and professionalism, particularly her ability to continue performing at her best regardless of what might be happening in her personal life.
"I learned on a personal level that the show always goes on no matter what," she said.
"You would never know if she was sick. You would never know if her heart was aching, for she's just giving it everything and doing it with grace and warmth, and she's just this fiercely brilliant singular, kind of alien," Abrams added.
