KATSEYE hint at teaming up with Charli XCX
KATSEYE have shared that they would love to join forces with Charli XCX someday, calling her a major influence on their creative outlook and future ambitions.
The Grammy nominated Los Angeles girl group dropped their ‘Beautiful Chaos’ EP last year, a release that featured the breakout track ‘Gabriela’. Co written by the ‘Brat’ hitmaker, the song went on to become the group’s biggest chart moment so far and helped introduce them to a much wider audience.
Speaking in a new interview with People, the group explained that Charli is “definitely” someone they hope to collaborate with more directly down the line. Member Manon Bannerman shared, “I just recently met her and I think we all really hope to work with her more in the future.”
“She’s absolutely a KATSEYE girlie, and we’re obsessed with ‘Brat’ and everything she represents,” Manon continued. “She inspires us so much. We have no idea what the future looks like, but we’re very, very into the idea of working together.”
Last year, NME also caught up with KATSEYE to talk about Charli’s influence, with Lara Raj reflecting on her admiration for the pop star. “One of the things that inspires me most about Charli is how versatile she is,” she said. “She’s been around for such a long time. I recently went deep into her catalogue and watched the whole evolution of Charli XCX. What makes her special, whether it’s her own work or songs she’s written for others, is that you can always tell it’s her.”
“In ‘Gabriela’, there are so many melodies where I thought, ‘Oh my god, she did that. That’s Charli,’” Lara added. “She leaves her mark on everything, even when the songs sound completely different. We honestly think she’s the coolest person ever. The artistry, the growth, and still staying true to who she is and what she likes is exactly what we all aspire to do ourselves.”
Elsewhere, the group have also opened up about their rapid rise following their Dream Academy win in 2023, including some of the tougher realities that came with it. “If 1,000 people are sending you death threats, it’s jarring,” Lara told the BBC. “Even if you know nothing will happen and it means nothing, it still weighs on you. It’s heavy.”
Charli, meanwhile, has a packed year ahead in 2026. She is set to appear in the A24 mockumentary The Moment, inspired by the ‘Brat’ album and tour, alongside roles in the indie drama Erupcja, the satirical thriller Sacrifice, a part opposite Natalie Portman in The Gallerist, and a turn in I Want Your Sex with Olivia Wilde.
She will also feature in the queer fairytale 100 Nights Of Hero and appear in Dakota Johnson’s directorial debut A Tree In Blue. In addition, Charli has created the soundtrack album for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, which arrives on February 11. She has already shared tracks from the project, including ‘Chains Of Love’ and ‘House’, the latter featuring The Velvet Underground’s John Cale.
