Barry Manilow Announces Brief Touring Break Amid Health Problems

Barry Manilow has reassured fans that he will be “singing like a bird” after stepping away from touring for a “quick break”.

The ‘Copacabana’ singer revealed last week that he had called off two performances at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.

In an Instagram update posted on Tuesday, Manilow explained that he needed a short period of rest away from the stage.

“Hi everybody - Barry here. And I want you to be the first to know that we're going to take a quick break,” he began. “We just finished a fantastic summer tour. 29 shows in 68 days. The shows were fantastic. The audiences were fantastic. And I sounded fantastic. But it seems that we were pushing a little too hard.”

Manilow then assured his followers that he plans to resume performing as soon as he can.

“Now we all need to sit down and shut up,” the 83 year old added. “So, we're going to take a break until we return to the Westgate Las Vegas on October 8th. When I'll be singing like a bird. I hope to see you then.”

Further live dates are expected to be revealed by Manilow in the near future.

The ‘Mandy’ singer’s representatives have yet to release an additional statement about the situation.

Manilow has spoken publicly about several health challenges over the past few years.

The music icon disclosed last December that he had been diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer and required surgery. In March, the ‘Can’t Smile Without You’ star confirmed that he was free from cancer.

“This made me stop and think about: Have I done what I wanted to do, and have I made people happy? Have I been a good friend? All of those cornball things that I've read for all of my life, I started to think about that, too. It really did stop me in my tracks,” he told People. “And the answers are yes. And as a matter of fact, there are more yeses than I ever thought.”
