Sabrina Carpenter supports her former co-star after “Manchild” dance on Dancing with the stars

Tuesday night’s (Sept. 30) episode of Dancing With the Stars turned into a small Girl Meets World reunion. After getting through the first two weeks with a tango to Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and a cha-cha-cha to Corona’s “The Rhythm of the Night,” Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel and her partner Pasha Pashkov returned with a smooth foxtrot set to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild.”

The choice of song was especially fitting for Fishel, 44, since it came from her former Girl Meets World co-star Carpenter’s new Man’s Best Friend album. On TikTok Night, the performance was strong enough to keep her in the competition another week. As EW noted, it also gave the longtime friends and sitcom castmates a moment to reconnect.

While preparing for the show, Carpenter, 26, gave Fishel a video call to encourage her before the big performance. “I’ve known Sabrina for over a decade now,” Fishel shared about the singer and actress, who played Maya Hart, her TV daughter’s best friend, on the Disney Channel series that ran from 2014 to 2017. “And I think of her like a daughter to me.”

During their rehearsal call, Carpenter cheered her on with, “I just found out you’re dancing to ‘Manchild’ this week. I’m so excited to see your dance.” Fishel laughed and answered, “I can’t wait to try to recreate it and fail miserably.” She did not fail at all, though, as she ended up earning her highest score of the season so far with 21 out of 30. The routine even worked in some TikTok-inspired moves and judge Bruno Tonioli described it as “elegant” and “stylish.”

“I’m just so proud of you,” Carpenter told her during the rehearsal conversation. “And I love you so much.”

That support carried into the live broadcast, where Fishel dedicated the number to Carpenter, saying, “We don’t want to let Sabrina down, so Sabrina, this one’s for you.” After her dance, co-host Julianne Hough met Fishel in the sky box, where she reflected on the experience. She said it felt “pretty amazing” to perform to one of Carpenter’s tracks. “She has given me so many opportunities to be immensely proud of her over the years,” Fishel added. “I hope I gave her one tonight.”

Dancing With the Stars airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+.
