Finn Wolfhard steps behind the camera for music video honoring Beatles icon
Finn Wolfhard has taken on a directing role, stepping behind the scenes to create a new music video celebrating the enduring legacy of George Harrison.
The Stranger Things actor collaborated with a collective of Canadian creatives on a stop motion video for Harrison’s 1973 song Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth).
The project came together through the efforts of 20 stop motion artists, each element crafted entirely by hand.
The large scale production was led by Toronto based Nobody Told Me Studios, working alongside Tye Down Pictures.
The 22 year old actor and musician, best known for playing Mike Wheeler on Netflix’s Stranger Things, spoke about the personal importance of the project, calling the experience a major milestone in his career.
He said: “To work with the Harrison family and bring this video to life with a team of incredible young Canadian artists has been a great honour."
Wolfhard also shared how deeply Harrison’s music has influenced him on a personal level.
He explained: “It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am for this opportunity. George Harrison has and will continue to be a huge inspiration to me, and his work will live on forever."
George Harrison’s son Dhani Harrison served as an executive producer on the project alongside David Zonshine, and said his father, who passed away in 2001 at the age of 58 following a battle with cancer, would have been delighted by the result.
Dhani, 47, said: “Finn is one of the sweetest and most talented people I know of his generation, and he is the perfect person to direct a video for my dad.
“My dad would have loved this, and I hope his wonderful, creative, heartfelt ideas help this song reach another generation. Great job, Finn – we love you.”
The video invites viewers into Harrison’s former home, Friar Park in Henley On Thames, weaving in subtle references to key moments from the musician’s life and career.
Earlier this year, Wolfhard launched his solo music journey with the release of his debut album Happy Birthday.
Speaking to Dork, the multi talented performer said the record was written during a time when he felt emotionally stuck.
He said: “I was going through something. I had no idea why I was feeling a certain way, so I just wrote about it. I put the wallowing to good use.”
