Manon Opens Up About Label Talks After Temporary Hiatus From KATSEYE
KATSEYE member Manon has reassured supporters that she is currently in “positive conversations” with her record label after the announcement that she would be stepping away from group activities for a period of time.
The Grammy nominated Los Angeles based girl group, created through a partnership between Hybe and Geffen Records, confirmed Manon’s “temporary hiatus” in February. At the time, they stated that the group would move forward with planned schedules while expressing hope that they would reunite when the circumstances allow.
Not long after the news became public, Manon reached out to fans through messages on Weverse. In her note she shared: “I’m healthy, I’m okay, and I’m taking care of myself. Thank u for checking in! Sometimes things unfold in ways we don’t fully control, but I’m trusting the bigger picture,” according to Billboard.
Since that update, questions have continued about what lies ahead for her in KATSEYE. Fans noticed she removed references to the group from her Instagram profile and that she did not appear in a recently released teaser for their upcoming single “Pinky Up,” which was shared on April 2.
Soon after the teaser went live, Manon returned to Weverse to express appreciation to fans, thanking them for the encouragement they have continued to show.
“I’m really grateful for the patience and kindness everyone has shown during this time,” she shared, as reported by Forbes. “HxG and I are having positive conversations and I feel supported. I’m happy and I’m healthy. I’ll share more soon. Thank you for always being there for me.”
This situation comes as KATSEYE gets ready for their first appearance at Coachella later this month. None of the remaining five members have publicly spoken about her break from the group.
Following the announcement of her hiatus, Little Mix member Leigh Anne showed public support for Manon. During an interview she commented: “There is some kind of vicious cycle going on right now with Black girls in girl groups. We see it all the time, so I’m glad people are speaking about it and highlighting it.”
Last year KATSEYE released their EP Beautiful Chaos. One of its songs, “Gnarly,” was ranked by NME as the fifth best track of the year.
During a previous interview with NME, Manon spoke about her reaction to the song, saying: “I didn’t expect such a crazy song.” She continued: “I was just super excited because I was like, ‘Oh my god, finally we can cuss!’”
